So Percussion announces “The Cage Bootlegs,” a sprawling recording project

Calling it “Cage 100″, Sō Percussion is releasing “a sprawling recording project” on Cantaloupe Records to commemorate John Cage’s 100th birthday. The footage will be taken from Cage-themed programs in Cambridge, Toronto, Austin and Zankel Hall on March 26th. Fans can purchase a limited-edition album that includes a handmade cover, blank LP, download card, and sampler CD. Jazz Drummer Paul Motian is Dead at 80

Composer and bandleader Paul Motian passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York yesterday. He was 80 and lived in Manhattan. Paul early recordings with the Bill Evans trio are legendary and he had an important role in freeing the drummer from strict time-keeping duties.  

Paul was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He recorded and played with Paul Bley, Bill Evans, Pierre Favre, Bill Frisell, Charlie Haden, Keith Jarrett.

Camerata Pacifica performs Steve Reich’s Sextet

Today’s video is from the opening performances of Camerata Pacifica’s 22nd season. The video was filmed live and unedited on September 22nd, 2011 at Zipper Hall in the Colburn School, Los Angeles.
