The New York chapter of the Percussive Arts Society announces the next concert in a new recital series based at the Players Theatre in Manhattan’s West Village, to take place on Tuesday, May 15. The concert features Vic Firth artist Ian Rosenbaum, an accomplished young percussionist who will perform works by John Cage, Keiko Abe, Osvaldo Golijov, and Alejandro Viñao as well as several chamber works by Andy Akiho. He will share the stage with several notable contemporary music players, including the new group Foundry (Andy Akiho, Sam Adams, Vicky Chow and Sean Dixon). The performance will serve as Rosenbaum’s official New York City debut as a solo artist.
Equally at home in large and small ensembles, Ian Rosenbaum’s most recent performances include a concert at the Kennedy Center with the chamber group Foundry, and he will perform Andy Akiho's Alloy with the Los Angeles Philharmonic next week. Rosenbaum has also performed with chamber groups such as So Percussion--as a frequent guest artist--and Le Train Bleu, Novus NY and the Wanmu percussion trio, as a founding member.
Rosenbaum’s NYC debut on May 15 will include, along with Foundry, cellist Mariel Roberts, violinists Megan Atchley and Josh Modney, and violist Edwin Kaplan. The concert will take place in two parts, the first comprising Variations on Japanese Children's Songs by Keiko Abe, 21 by Andy Akiho, In a Landscape by John Cage, and Khan Variations by Alejandro Viñao; the second half comprising Mariel by Osvaldo Golijov, and Hadairo, Aka, and LIgNEouS by Andy Akiho.
