Our staff, drawn from London’s exhilarating jazz scene, play and perform with students, replicating the feel of the wider jazz community. Upon joining Trinity Laban’s Jazz Department, you will enter a vibrant and dynamic community of improvisers. Though grounded in the jazz tradition, we are constantly looking forward and we invite you to draw on a wealth of diverse influences within these traditions, and reinterpret them in new ways as you find your individual voice. We will support you as you develop as a musician, an improviser and an innovative performing artist, enabling you to reach your full creative potential.
Students can perform with staff at our regular B-Side nights and our bi-monthly https://chambermusiciantoday.com/ showcases Cut Throat and Undercurrent, join our jam sessions on Mondays, and work in collaboration with the BBC. Students on the BMus programme can opt to undertake jazz electives within Academic Studies and Artist Development modules. These help you develop a knowledge of core jazz repertoire, understand how to approach improvisation, and explore the practical aspects of putting together a jazz performance.
