Exeter College JCR is fortunate to possess a sizeable collection of artwork, which is lent out to students living in College each year to brighten their rooms. Experience world-class talent in an intimate setting, as The Arts Club plays host to the most iconic acts. We have a series of rooms available so you can continue to practise your instrument of choice, including silent band practice.

The project has just launched a brand new set of Ten Pieces with resources for 7-14 year-olds including short introductory videos, full orchestral performances, instrumental and vocal arrangements, and 6-weeks’ of lesson plans. Each year the project invites schools to send in creative responses to the music to be featured on the BBC website. There are six In Harmony programmes currently running in Lambeth, Liverpool, Nottingham, Telford, Stoke-on-Trent, Leeds and Newcastle-upon-Tyne serving over 45 schools and 8,000 children most in need. Participating schools commit significant curriculum hours each week to ensemble music-making, through instrumental lessons, and music sessions. Since the programme’s inception in 2008 there has been strong evidence of the positive impact on the personal, social, educational and musical development of young people that have participated. Guildford and wider Surrey is home to a diverse range of venues hosting high quality drama, performing arts, live music and visual arts.

Music Education

The Calne Music and Arts Festival has been an important part of Calne life for nearly 50 years. Each year Marden House in Calne hosts an impressive Open Art Exhibition, presenting the works of predominantly local Artists. Nearly all works are for sale and the exhibition boasts some reputable names, making this a must for art enthusiasts and collectors alike. The Festival was inaugurated in 1974 and has grown substantially over the years, showcasing some exceptional talent, whilst reaching a wide cross section of the community.

We have launched video resources for the primary sector that additionally support wellbeing. The content is delivered by our specialist team and has accompanying, simple to follow, teacher packs. We are hugely excited by this aptly entitled ‘Uplift’ venture which is viewable and purchasable on the ‘Resources’ page of this website.

We expect every child to have the opportunity to sing and play instruments – both solo and in groups – and to be able to take these skills further if they have the talent or inspiration. The music education programmes listed here help us in our mission to ensure children and young people across the country have access to quality music education. We invest public money from Government and The National Lottery to help support the sector and to deliver this vision. We bring the highest standards of artistic experience, supporting local and regional communities, and we welcome artists of international stature. We present events in a range of locations, from historic castles and gardens to art galleries, from theatres to ancient churches. The objective of the society shall be to encourage interest and participation in the Arts by the local community, through a programme of activity including performances, concerts, exhibitions, talks and workshops during the festival period.

It has hosted some of the finest local selectors and internationally-acclaimed DJs alike. Artists including Four Tet, Floating Points, Gilles Peterson, Mafalda and Mr. Scruff have donated their time and talent to support MAP Charity’s work with young people. Previously known as Ten Pieces at Home, Ten Pieces Tasters are simple, fun, creative activities for primary age children.

The Festival aims not only to provide entertainment for the people of Calne and surrounding villages, but also to promote local musical and artistic talent. In Harmony is a national programme, co-funded with the Department for Education , that inspires children through immersive musical experiences and aims to increase educational attainment and community aspiration. Leo’s Slip downstairs to the club’s late night cocktail bar with live music, Leo’s plays host to DJs and musicians each week. World of Art was introduced in 2010 with the aim of bringing the work of contemporary visual artists to the festival. Each year we have invited British and International artists to bring or create a wide range of work including film, sculpture, installations and performance.
